Jenny Lewis’ Nice as Fuck Announces 10th Anniversary Reunion Tour

The long-dormant supergroup trio, featuring Jenny Lewis, Erika Spring of Au Revoir Simone, and Tennessee Thomas of the Like, has emerged from hibernation with little warning to announce a short run of live performances this fall. The upcoming trek marks a significant milestone for the band, celebrating a decade since the release of their first and only album. To coincide with the tour, the group is also issuing a vinyl reissue of the record, which has been out of print since its initial release. The reissue is currently available for preorder.

The tour is scheduled to kick off on Oct. 16 in Pasadena, California, at Sid the Cat. From there, the band will travel through the West Coast and Midwest before concluding the run on the East Coast just before Halloween. Every date on the anniversary tour will feature support from DJ Alix Brown. This series of shows represents a rare opportunity for fans to see the group live, as Nice as Fuck played fewer than two dozen gigs during their original run in 2016.

Artistic Themes and Political Commentary

The band's self-titled album consists of nine songs known for blending catchy hooks with resoundingly straightforward, politically charged lyrics. During their initial run, the group's material was notably influenced by the social and political climate of the time. The track "Homerun" was clearly timed to the 2016 election, featuring the lyrics: "Left is right/Right is suicide/Let’s get that home run, baby."

Another prominent track, "Guns," addresses the issue of school shootings. In the song, Lewis sings the line: "The crisis is not ISIS, spilling our own blood." In an original review of the album, Rolling Stone described the project as "gentle as a breeze," suggesting that the "whole album could be a nine-song meditation on Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Go You Own Way.’"

Origins and Spontaneous Formation

The formation of Nice as Fuck was largely unplanned, according to the band members. The trio first began performing together in 2016 and famously played their debut show at a rally for Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign. In a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone, Lewis discussed the unconventional way the band came together, noting the lack of a traditional industry timeline.

When questioned about whether the group was intended to be a one-off project or a long-term fixture, the members remained open to various possibilities. Erika Spring emphasized the spontaneous nature of their collaboration, suggesting that the band's future remains fluid.

Context and Full Tour Schedule

Nice as Fuck is not the only project involving Lewis to see a recent revival. Just last year, her former band Rilo Kiley reunited for a performance at California’s Just Like Heaven music festival, which subsequently led to a full headlining tour. Lewis, who has been active in the Rock genre since 1976, continues to balance these reunions with her broader musical career.
