The fifth collective studio album from featuring & The Conspirators (SMKC) is titled Flying Blind. Scheduled for a worldwide release on February 26, 2027, via Gibson Records, the project marks the successor to their 2022 album, 4. To coincide with the news, the group has shared the anthemic title track and its accompanying music video, which was filmed at The Viper Room in Los Angeles and directed by John Harvatine IV.

Recorded largely live with longtime producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette at Studio Barbarosa in Florida, the 12-track album captures the band at their most instinctive and tightly connected. The musicians, including bassist Todd Kerns, drummer Brent Fitz, and rhythm guitarist Frank Sidoris, completed the bulk of the record in approximately one week, often recording two songs a day while performing together in the same room. Slash provided guitar and pedal steel for the sessions, while Kennedy handled lead vocals.

Musical Direction and Creative Process

The upcoming record is described as a raw and straightforward project that leans into the band's Heavy Metal and hard-rock foundations. Slash emphasized the spontaneous nature of the recording sessions, noting that he instructed Baskette to keep the performances as live as possible without overworking them in post-production.

"It’s a really fun, kind of spontaneous rock ’n’ roll record. It’s very straightforward and down-to-earth and raw."

— Slash

The title track, "Flying Blind," was created spontaneously during pre-production when Slash introduced a new riff during a rehearsal. Kennedy’s lyrics for the single examine the shortcuts people often take in their search for fulfillment and enlightenment. Kennedy noted that the creative process for this album remained high-energy despite the members' busy schedules with other projects, such as Slash’s 2024 blues album Orgy of the Damned and Kennedy’s work with Alter Bridge.

"I really enjoyed putting a melody to this song. The way the chord progression starts in the beginning had a nice flow to it. The lyric is about how sometimes people try to take shortcuts and try to find the easy way to achieve happiness or enlightenment."

— Myles Kennedy

Kennedy also praised the collaborative dynamic that has sustained the group for 15 years, particularly highlighting Slash's ability to write compelling foundations for new music.

"He’s an incredible riff writer. He also comes up with simple chord progressions that are very compelling for melodies. It works and it’s timeless."

— Myles Kennedy

Album Highlights and Track Listing

Across its 12 tracks, Flying Blind explores various sonic territories. "**Good Time Girl**" features a talk box hook and country influences, while "**Sweet Kill**" is described by Slash as an 80s-influenced rock track. "**Looking for a Miracle**" marks a significant milestone as the first song Slash has written and recorded on pedal steel. The album also includes a new instrumental, "**Living the Dream**," continuing an SMKC tradition of providing space for guitar improvisation.
