Potential Return to the Studio

During the final night of the North American leg of the current tour, Gerard Way addressed the crowd regarding the future of My Chemical Romance. While no official title or release date was confirmed, Way expressed a strong desire for the band to create their first full-length studio effort since 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. Framing the prospect as a hope influenced by the band's longevity and fan support, Way acknowledged that the group has long considered returning to the studio to record their first LP in over 15 years.

"Just know that, like, we’ve kind of really always wanted to make another record, so we hope that life allows us to do that. Cause you guys, honestly, you guys kept us alive so long. You guys deserve another record. I don’t know when it’ll be. But it’ll be awesome."

The singer also reflected on the band's 2022 standalone single, "The Foundations of Decay," suggesting that the experience of performing new material was a catalyst for wanting to write more. These remarks represent the most direct public acknowledgment of a potential fifth studio album since the group’s 2019 reunion.

"We should probably make more songs. [“The Foundations of Decay”] was really awesome when we kept doing it. And then you know, stuff happens, life happens. But, just know that, we kind of always wanted to make another record, so we hope to. Because you guys, honestly, kept us alive for so long that you guys deserve another record."

Touring Schedule and 2026 Plans

The announcement comes as the band concludes a highly successful run celebrating the 20th anniversary of their 2006 album, The Black Parade. While the San Antonio show marked the end of the primary North American leg of the Long Live the Black Parade Tour, the band's schedule remains active through the end of the year.

My Chemical Romance is slated to perform at two major festivals: Louder Than Life in Louisville, Kentucky, and Aftershock in Sacramento, California. Following these appearances, the group will take up a five-night residency at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, which is scheduled to conclude on Halloween, October 31. The band will then head to Southeast Asia for a monthlong tour ending in late November, at which point the group may have the opportunity to return to the studio.

Looking further ahead, the band has already extended their anniversary campaign into a global stadium run titled The Black Parade 2026. This upcoming tour will include dates across North America, the United Kingdom, and Europe, where the band will continue to perform their 2006 magnum opus in its entirety.

Anniversary Reissue and Legacy

In addition to the tour, the band recently announced an expanded 20th-anniversary reissue of The Black Parade, set for release on October 23 via Reprise Records. This new edition will feature the original album alongside six bonus tracks. Among these additions are three live recordings captured during a 2007 club performance in Hoboken, New Jersey, which was limited to a 200-person capacity. The reissue also includes the previously unreleased B-side “Someone Out There Loves You” and features three new pieces of artwork created by James Jean, the original cover artist.

Originally released in 2006, The Black Parade remains a pivotal moment in the Rock genre, having topped Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart. The record was certified four-times platinum in the United States. Its lead single, "Welcome to the Black Parade," reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has earned a five-times platinum certification. Since reuniting in 2019, the band has primarily focused on live performances, with "The Foundations of Decay" serving as their only new studio release during that period.
