Band of Horses is an American indie rock band recognized for its atmospheric soundscapes and the distinctive, soaring vocals of founder Ben Bridwell. Originally formed in Seattle, Washington, in 2004, the group has evolved through various lineup changes while maintaining a reputation for blending folk-rock sensibilities with expansive, reverb-drenched production. The band is currently based in Charleston, South Carolina.
The band was established by Ben Bridwell and Mat Brooke following the dissolution of their previous project, Carissa's Wierd. After gaining early momentum by opening for Iron & Wine in the Seattle area, the group caught the attention of Sub Pop Records. Their first official release, the Band of Horses Tour EP, was followed by their debut full-length album, Everything All the Time, in 2006. Produced by Phil Ek, the album earned critical praise and featured the breakout single "The Funeral," which became a defining track for the indie rock era.
