Formed in 1983, the band's members originated from various parts of the United States. Key figures included Kentucky native Sid Griffin, who shared lead vocals and guitar duties with Stephen McCarthy from Virginia. The Long Ryders achieved a UK hit in 1985 with their single "Looking for Lewis & Clark." Following their initial disbandment in 1987, the band reunited for performances at significant events such as the 2004 Glastonbury Festival.
