History
Ramesses
Ramesses was a sludge and doom metal band originating from Dorset, England. The group was formed in February 2003 by Tim Bagshaw and Mark Greening, both formerly of the influential doom metal band Electric Wizard. They were joined by Adam Richardson, who had previously been a member of Lord of Putrefaction, Spirmyard, and Hexed. The band's sound was characterized by a blend of "crushing blackened doom," featuring "torrential riffing," "concussive percussion," and intense growls, often developed through "freeform psychedelic jams."
Band Evolution and Releases
In 2011, Ramesses released their third full-length album, Possessed By The Rise of Magick. This was followed by the studio/live EP Chrome Pineal, which included three new studio tracks and three live recordings from 2007.
Lineup Changes and Hiatus
In 2012, founding member and guitarist Tim Bagshaw departed from the band. Bagshaw relocated to the United States and formed the sludge/doom metal band Serpentine Path with members of Unearthly Trance. For live performances following Bagshaw's departure, Mike Vest of the band Bong filled in on guitar.
On January 29, 2013, Ramesses announced an indefinite hiatus via their official website. Around the same time, it was revealed on Mark Greening's Facebook page that he had left the band in October 2012 to rejoin a previous project, later confirmed to be Electric Wizard. Adam Richardson went on to form a new project named 11Paranoias with Mike Vest, a project that Mark Greening had also been a part of previously.
