History
Limbonic Art
Limbonic Art is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band, known for its strong incorporation of orchestral and classical music influences. The band was formed in 1993 in Norway.
Formation and Early Years
Initially a four-piece, Limbonic Art quickly evolved into a duo before releasing any material. The consistent lineup has since comprised Daemon (Vidar Jensen) and Morfeus (Krister Dreyer). Between 1995 and 1996, they recorded two demo tapes: a rehearsal tape and an official promo tape. This early material attracted the attention of Nocturnal Art Productions, a label founded by Samoth of Emperor and Zyklon. In 1996, the band released their debut album, Moon in the Scorpio.
Musical Evolution and Reception
Limbonic Art garnered a significant underground following by blending atmospheric elements with harsh black metal. As their career progressed, their albums gradually shifted towards a more direct black metal sound, though they consistently retained their symphonic roots through the use of keyboards. A notable aspect of their sound, and a frequent point of discussion, was the use of an electronic drum machine, a feature that, while drawing criticism from some, did not deter their dedicated fanbase.
Later Releases and Hiatus
In 1998, the band re-recorded and released early demo material under the title Epitome of Illusions, an album that also served to thank their fans for their enduring support. In 2000, Daemon was invited by Samoth to contribute vocals to Zyklon's debut album and perform live with the band. However, Daemon departed from Zyklon in 2001 due to personal reasons and touring commitments. Limbonic Art announced a hiatus in February 2003, only to reveal their reformation in 2006.
