History
Kevin Burke is a highly regarded Irish fiddler, born in London in 1950 to parents hailing from County Sligo. His musical journey began at the age of eight when he started playing the fiddle, developing a virtuosic command of the distinctive Sligo fiddling style.
Musical Career
The Bothy Band and Patrick Street
Burke's career gained significant momentum when he joined the renowned Irish traditional music group, The Bothy Band, in 1976. Later, in 1986, he became a member of another prominent ensemble, Patrick Street.
Celtic Fiddle Festival and Solo Work
Since its formation in the early 1990s, Burke has been a consistent and integral member of the Celtic Fiddle Festival. Beyond his group affiliations, he has also maintained a notable solo career.
Recognition and Personal Life
National Heritage Fellowship
In recognition of his profound contributions to traditional Irish music, Burke was awarded the prestigious National Endowment for the Arts' National Heritage Fellowship in 2002.
Life in Portland
Burke settled in Portland, Oregon, in 1979, where he continues to reside with his wife and two children.
