History
Snakefarm
Snakefarm emerged from the creative partnership of vocalist Anna Domino and guitarist Michel Delory. Domino, whose early life was marked by frequent moves between Tokyo, Michigan, Italy, and Canada, developed a unique adaptability that eventually led her to Brussels, Belgium. It was here that she launched a solo career, releasing four albums and two EPs between 1984 and 1990 on the Les Disques du Crepuscule label, earning critical acclaim for her distinctive art-pop sound.
Musical Evolution and Collaboration
Guitarist Michel Delory joined Domino's band in 1986, marking the beginning of a significant personal and professional collaboration. In 1996, a compilation of Domino's solo work, titled Favorite Songs from the Twilight Years, was released. This collection served as a bridge for fans as Domino and Delory began to shape their next musical endeavor, Snakefarm.
Snakefarm's Debut and Artistic Direction
Influenced by her upbringing listening to folk icons like Leadbelly, Odetta, and Mahalia Jackson, Domino possessed a natural inclination for reinterpreting classic American folk songs with her characteristic offbeat musicality. Delory contributed his experimental production skills and multi-instrumental talents to this vision. Snakefarm's debut album, Songs From My Funeral, was released in 1999 on Kneeling Elephant Records and was met with positive reviews.
