Snakefarm emerged from the creative partnership of vocalist Anna Domino and guitarist Michel Delory. Domino, whose early life was marked by frequent moves between Tokyo, Michigan, Italy, and Canada, developed a unique adaptability that eventually led her to Brussels, Belgium. It was here that she launched a solo career, releasing four albums and two EPs between 1984 and 1990 on the Les Disques du Crepuscule label, earning critical acclaim for her distinctive art-pop sound.

Guitarist Michel Delory joined Domino's band in 1986, marking the beginning of a significant personal and professional collaboration. In 1996, a compilation of Domino's solo work, titled Favorite Songs from the Twilight Years, was released. This collection served as a bridge for fans as Domino and Delory began to shape their next musical endeavor, Snakefarm.
