History
Goldfinger
Formation and Early Years
Goldfinger, a prominent ska punk band, was formed in 1993 in California. The group's name is a nod to the classic James Bond film. The original lineup featured John Feldmann on vocals and guitar, Simon Williams on bass, "Dangerous" Darrin Pfeiffer on drums, and Charlie Paulson on guitar.
Debut and Breakthrough
Prior to signing with a major label, Goldfinger released an EP titled Richter. Many of the tracks on Richter were demo versions that would later appear on their self-titled full-length debut album, Goldfinger, released in 1996. The band achieved significant success with their single "Here in Your Bedroom." Their song "Superman" also gained widespread recognition after being featured in the popular video game Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Another track, "Spokesman," was later included in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4.
Continued Releases and Fanbase
While their second album, Hang-Ups, saw less commercial success, Goldfinger maintained a dedicated following within the hardcore music community. Their third studio album, Stomping Ground, experienced modest success in some European countries, largely due to their cover of Nena's "99 Red Balloons," which featured German lyrics. This cover also found its way into the video game Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec and the movie Eurotrip. The band's subsequent album, Open Your Eyes, was released in 2002 on their new record label, Jive/Zomba.
John Feldmann's Production Work
Frontman John Feldmann has also established a notable career as a record producer. He has produced albums for bands such as Mest, The Used (whose vocalist Bert McCracken provided guest vocals on Goldfinger's "Open Your Eyes" and "Ocean Size"), and Story of the Year. Feldmann also produced Good Charlotte's single "The Anthem," which was originally titled "Oracle of Elcaro" and featured guest vocals from guitarist Benji Madden on Goldfinger's track "January." Additionally, he was instrumental in signing the band Unloco to Maverick Records.
Later Albums and Lineup Changes
In early 2005, Goldfinger released their first album for their new label, titled Disconnection Notice, featuring the single "Wasted." Over the years, the band has seen some lineup changes. Bassist Simon Williams departed after the Hang-Ups album and was replaced by Kelly Lemieux. Brian Arthur also left the band following the release of Disconnection Notice.
