Cara Dillon, born July 21, 1975, in Dungiven, County Derry, Northern Ireland, is an acclaimed Irish folk singer. She embarked on her solo career in the UK in 2001 with the release of her self-titled debut album, Cara Dillon. Before establishing her solo career, Dillon was a member of the folk groups Óige and Equation. She, along with Sam Lakeman (her husband since 2002), departed from Equation to sign with Blanco y Negro Records under the moniker 'Polar Star,' although no recordings under this name were released.

Her debut album, Cara Dillon, released in 2001, featured a blend of traditional songs and two original compositions. The album earned her the Best Newcomer award and the Best Song award for 'Black is the Colour' at the 2002 Radio 2 Folk Awards.
