1st solo venture:

HITOKI's main claim to fame was being the bassist for the influential japanese rock band 黒夢. Though known for being the shy and somewhat taciturn member of 黒夢 (the opposite of partner 清春), Hitoki decided to step into the spotlight in 1997 for his 1st solo venture.

1997 was an especially busy year for 黒夢. In April of that year, the band had released their 9th single NITE & DAY and had resumed tour activities. Almost two months later they released their 10th single Spray, followed 3 weeks later by their 5th full album Drug Treatment. It was during that heavy touring and release schedule of 黒夢, that Hitoki found time to embark on his solo project. He enlisted the help of his friends: Producer Masahide Sakuma (who also provided guitar and keyboards), drummer Soul Toul and Kaoru (who co-wrote a majority of the lyrics, and who could possibly be 間宮かおる from Of-J). Hitoki, along with composing and playing bass, also took up vocal duties.

On November 6th 1997, HITOKI released his debut single Franchise Music through Warner Music Japan, which was followed 21 days later by his 1st full album Franchise. The album featured music similar to what he composed for Drug Treatment, along with 2 instrumental jam sessions (which are credited to Masahide Sakuma, Soul Toul, and himself).

post 黒夢

黒夢 dissolved in 1999, and though he dropped out of the limelight, Hitoki remained quite active in the indie and major label rock scene. Besides his solo projects (HITOKI-PIRANHAHEADS, SSS), and joining old friends in new projects (SUPER DROP BABIES) Hitoki did session work for numerous artists such as IZAM, aki(ex Laputa), Hideki(ex Siam Shade), Creature Creature, 大塚愛, 嵐, Hysteric Blue, and TOURBILLON.

Reformation of 黒夢 and beyond

On January 29th 2009, (the 10th anniversary of 黒夢's final live) Hitoki reunited with 清春 for "黒夢 the end CORKSCREW A GO GO FINAL" a 1 night only performance which acted as the long awaited CORKSCREW A GO GO tour final and was supposed to be the official end of 黒夢. However, in 2010, 清春 announced the reformation of the band. A little over a year later on February 9th 2011, 黒夢 released ミザリー, the bands 1st single in over 12 years. Despite 黒夢's return, HITOKI is also still involved with CREATURE CREATURE and aki and provides them with the occasional composition. He is also still working on his own solo projects. He released the acoustic album ちっぽけな僕の世界 (chippoke na boku no sekai) in July of 2011 and the instrumental album I NEVER KILL THE GROOVE in November 2012.
