Biography Ben Granfelt

Critically acclaimed Finnish guitarist Ben Granfelt formed his own band in 1993. Since the Ben Granfelt Band (BGB) was formed, the trio has toured Germany, the UK and the US and done countless tours in Finland. He is accompanied by top session drummer Miri Miettinen and veteran bass player Harri Rantanen.

Alongside of the Ben Granfelt Band, Ben's most prominent bands include:

Wishbone Ash (2001-2004), 1 album, 2 DVDs

Leningrad Cowboys (1991-1998), 5 albums.

Guitar Slingers (1991-1999), 3 albums.

Gringos Locos (1986 - 1991), which released 3 albums.

With the Cowboys Ben played all around the planet in over 20 countries including Japan and Australia as well as at the 1994 MTV Awards gala in New York. Ben wrote most of the bands original material. He was asked to join Wishbone Ash in 2001 after supporting them with BGB on several different occasions. WA’s Bona Fide album was a succes among the fans and received great reviews from the press. After some 450 shows Ben left WA to solely concentrate on his own band in October 2004.

The Ben Granfelt Band has toured successfully with Deep Purple, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Thin Lizzy and Wishbone Ash.

The Past Experience 1994-2004 compilation, with 2 new songs and some outakes and remixes, is an excellent collection of songs from Bens 5 previous albums. This compilation also proves beyond doubt that Ben is not only a fine guitar player with great chops but also a talented songwriter with something for everyone. The Past Experience 1994-2004 was released in the Benelux countries in February by Suburban and will be released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in May on Cargo Musicl.

It should also be mentioned that Ben wrote and performed the 1997 ice hockey world championship TV theme. This song - Slap Shot - can be found on Ben's third CD Live and on The Past Experience. He also had his own "Guitar Corner" in a TV music program which was nominated for a Venla (a Finnish Grammy award) in 2002. For more up to date info check out http://www.bengranfelt.com
