The Sun Years

2003

On February 1st, steered by Ülo Krigul and Tanel Padar. Tanel Padar & The Sun come together for the first time. The inital line-up also featres Danel Pandre and Toomas Rull. The month of May sees the release of the debut single “Big Lie”.

Toomas leaves the band, to be replaced behind drums by Eimel Kaljulaid.

2004

In the summer, Meelis Tauk joins the band on guitars.

In the autumn, Ülo Krigul leaves the band in order to commence studies at the Conservatory Vienna. Studio engineer Johannes Lõhmus fills in on the keyboards.

In November the EP “Welcome To Estonia” is released.

2005

Johannes leaves in the beginning of the year. The band continues as a four-piece.

In June The Sun gains a new keyboard player – Tomi Rahula.

The debut album “Greatest Hits” is released. The album is presented in the middle of the Bay of Tallinn, in a quite non-traditional sport – on a fuel pontoon. The first hits by The Sun – “Neljapäev”, “Kuu on päike”, “Sõnad läinud” and “Welcome To Estonia” – gain overall fame.

By the end of the year, the band release an acoustic live CD/DVD. The expanded line-up features Kaido Kelder (ERSO) on chello, drummer of the Orchestra of Estonian Border Service, Eno Kollom, accordion player Andrus Lehes from the band Jäägermeistrid, and Jelena Juzvik, the singer of April Frost.

2006

January. Nationwide radio-station R2 declares “Kuu on päike” the ht of the year.

2008

Meelis Tauk leaves the band. Tarvo Valm fills his spot on guitars.

The Sun leaves the Estonian Music Awards gala with one third of the prizes – The Sun is the Band Of the Year, “Greatest Hits” the Album of the Year.

At the grandiose gala-bash taking place at the Vanemuise concert house, Tanel Padar & The Sun are crowned the best rock artist, author of the best hit song and the most successful newcomers.

June. The new album by the band, “100% Rock’n’Roll”, is now available at the stores. Songs from the new album are presented on June 13 at Tallinn Song Festival Grounds while supporting Metallica, as well as from a stage built on a truck, driving around the streets of Tallinn.
