History Coppelius

Coppelius is a band from Berlin, Germany, which was founded in 1997 and is playing a unique form of "chamber metal" with classical instruments (clarinet, cello, double bass), vocals and drums. Their repertoire consists of self-written songs and covers (Iron Maiden, Motörhead etc). Whilst still an inside-tip, the band has gained in popularity after having opened for The Inchtabokatables's final concert and playing as supporting act for Fiddler's Green, Tanzwut, Subway to Sally and Uriah Heep in 2003/2004.

The members appear under fictitous identities who claim to be from the 19th century.

The band's name originates from the novel "Der Sandmann" by German Romantic author E.T.A. Hoffmann who also inspired some songs. The band has been praised for its live performances.
