History Big John Bates & the Voodoo Dollz

Vancouverite Big John Bates’ career spans decades and underground genres from thrash metal (Annihilator), garage (Voodoo Dollz), dark alternative (Bates Motel) to the cult of the Big John Bates Noirchestra.

The Noirchestra sound can be considered a part of the post-punk revival and the impact of this dark, dramatic band is unforgettable. Big John Bates and Brandy Bones add rustic gothic themes to their moody rock-based offerings creating “… relentless, film noir-inspired Dracula-awaking grooves” (Beatroute Magazine, July 2017).

In support of 2015’s “From the Bestiary to the Leathering Room” (Rookie Records) the band brought their unique performance to over 120 shows across North America, Europe and Japan. Big John Bates is currently in the studio working on their 3rd Noirchestra LP for release in 2018.
