Biography

Jocelyn West studied at the Purcell School of Music, where she met Katharine Blake and Kelly McCusker. Together they went busking in London, singing madrigals. They were discovered by Barry Adamson, who invited them to sing on his album Delusion, which he was recording for Mute Records. Jocelyn and Katharine also sang on the single Heart On The Line by fellow Mute artists Fortran 5. The girls got their own record deal and recorded the album Madra (25 madrigals for three voices) under the name Miranda Sex Garden in 1991. The single Gush Forth My Tears became a hit in various remixed, synthed-up versions.

Jocelyn appeared live with Miranda Sex Garden, but left before their next recording. She moved to the US, where she worked with David Lynch on an album of music by Hildegaard von Bingen. The album was Lux Vivens from 1998 and is still highly regarded today (Jocelyn appeared under her married name Montgomery). She later worked with the renowned medieval music ensemble Sinfonye led by Stevie Wishart on several albums.
