Biography

60's Californian psychedelic rock legend, famous as the author of two rock anthems: "Hey Joe" and "Get Together". He actually wrote only the latter, as the first was an old traditional song he only had the idea to bring to the 60's rock environment (later being released by The Leaves, Jimi Hendrix Experience and many others). He wrote "Get Together" under his original name, Chet Powers, but sold the rights to help in raising some money while in prison. Valenti was a founding member of Quicksilver Messenger Service, only not getting to record or play live many times in the band because of his imprisonment shortly after the founding. Still, that's while one of the QMS songs is called "Dino's Song" because of him. Out of the band, he released a great self-titled folk-rock album in 1968. In 1969 he rejoined Quicksilver Messenger Service as their lead singer, where he wrote and sang their best-remembered "hit," "Fresh Air," as well as such songs as "What About Me?" many of which were published under the pseudonym, "Jesse Otis Farrow." His last released recording may have been the reuinion Quicksilver album, _Solid Silver_.
