Emergency Response at Discovery Meadow

The medical emergencies began during the evening of Friday, September 4, as The Chainsmokers performed at an outdoor venue in the Bay Area. According to the San Jose Fire Department (SJFD), the first reports of multiple patients requiring medical assistance reached authorities at 8:22 p.m.

The scale of the incident prompted the SJFD to escalate their response significantly. The department utilized social media to provide details on the resources required to manage the situation at Discovery Meadow. To ensure adequate care for the attendees, the department requested an Ambulance Task Force and specialized fire units.

A total of 14 ambulances responded, and 14 patients were transported to local hospitals."

The medical response was extensive, with 14 ambulances arriving at the scene to transport the 14 patients to local hospitals. According to reports from ABC 7, at least 10 of these attendees were taken to the hospital during the final 30 minutes of the performance. While over a dozen people required hospitalization, paramedics remained on-site to treat other concertgoers as the medical response continued through the end of the show.

Suspected Causes and Law Enforcement Reports

While the San Jose Fire Department did not publicly state the specific reasons why the concertgoers required hospitalization, local law enforcement provided further details regarding the nature of the emergencies. Police officials told NBC Bay Area that those transported were experiencing a variety of medical concerns. These issues included "suspected alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues."

Despite the high volume of medical calls and the presence of numerous emergency vehicles, the performance was not deterred by the ongoing emergencies. The Electronic duo finished their set as the Ambulance Task Force and fire units managed the patients. Regarding legal repercussions following the reports of drug and alcohol issues, SFGate noted that no arrests were reported in connection with the event.

At the time of reporting, the current condition of the 14 hospitalized patients has not been disclosed. The Chainsmokers, comprised of members Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, had not publicly addressed the hospitalizations at press time. Representatives for the group were reached by Billboard for comment, but a statement was not immediately available. However, the duo did share video footage from the San Jose gig on their social media accounts following the event.

This appearance was part of their long-term residency at the Las Vegas venue.
