Knocked Loose: Kentucky Metalcore Force
Hailing from Oldham County, Kentucky, Knocked Loose emerged in 2013 as a potent force in the American metalcore scene. The band, currently signed to Pure Noise Records, has cultivated a reputation for their aggressive sound and compelling live performances.
As of 2020, the lineup features Bryan Garris on lead vocals, Nicko Calderon on rhythm guitar, Isaac Hale on lead guitar and backing vocals, Kevin Otten on bass, and Kevin Kaine on drums. Cole Crutchfield was a member from 2015 to 2020, contributing rhythm guitar and backing vocals.
Discography and Evolution
Knocked Loose made their studio debut with Laugh Tracks, released on September 16, 2016. This was followed by their second full-length album, A Different Shade of Blue, which dropped on August 23, 2019. Both albums were released through Pure Noise Records, solidifying their partnership with the label.
The COVID-19 pandemic presented a unique challenge and opportunity for the band. With their extensive touring schedule, which had been nearly continuous since 2014, disrupted, Knocked Loose found themselves back in their hometown of Oldham County, Kentucky, in early 2020. This period of enforced downtime led them to a cabin in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where they focused on writing a concept EP. By the end of September 2020, they had completed recording.
This resulted in the six-song EP, A Tear in the Fabric of Life. This release expanded upon the narrative themes introduced in A Different Shade of Blue and pushed the band's sonic boundaries. Described as their most dynamic and cohesive offering to date, the EP is a balancing act of mid-length ambition and grand scope. It incorporates new sonic elements while retaining Knocked Loose's signature anthemic delivery, showcasing their continued artistic growth.
