The Antlers is an American indie rock band that emerged from Brooklyn, New York, in 2007. Initially conceived as a solo project by vocalist and guitarist Peter Silberman, the band evolved into a collaborative unit. Silberman's early work, including the albums "Uprooted" and "In the Attic of the Universe," was created independently before he joined forces with Michael Lerner and Darby Cicci.
Following the release of two EPs, "Cold War" and "New York Hospitals," Silberman began developing a collection of songs described as an "elegy for his planned disappearance." This personal project coalesced into the critically acclaimed full-length album, "Hospice," independently released in March 2009. The album tells a poignant story of an abusive relationship through the allegorical lens of a hospice worker caring for a patient he develops feelings for, who ultimately succumbs to bone cancer. Silberman has noted the deeply autobiographical nature of the work. The independent release saw unexpected demand, leading the band to reissue the album due to overwhelming sales.
