History
Alexisonfire: A Post-Hardcore Force from Canada
Alexisonfire emerged from St. Catharines, Ontario, in late 2001, a potent post-hardcore outfit born from the dissolution of three other bands. Their sound is defined by a dynamic interplay of raw energy and intricate guitar work, creating a signature turbulent and explosive style.
Origins and Name
The band's distinctive name was inspired by Alexis Fire, a contortionist performer. This led to a brief legal dispute when she discovered they were using her name, including her website domain. However, as she had not trademarked the name, the threats of legal action did not materialize. In a show of defiance, the band later changed their website URL to theonlybandever.com.
Musical Style and Lyrical Themes
Alexisonfire's music features a dual vocal approach, with George Pettit handling the aggressive screaming and Dallas Green delivering the melodic singing, often supported by Wade MacNeil. Their lyrical content spans a diverse range, from personal relationship struggles to more lighthearted subjects like go-karting.
Global Reach and Touring
While their strongest following remains in their native Canada, Alexisonfire has cultivated a significant fanbase internationally, particularly in Australia, Europe, and the United States. The band has undertaken extensive tours, including notable runs in Australia with Break Even, Europe with Chickenhawk and The Computers, and Canada with Norma Jean and La Dispute.
Accolades and Recognition
The band received a unique nomination for "ugliest rock band ever" at the CASBY Awards, though they did not win. In 2010, Alexisonfire achieved recognition by winning the "Best New Single" Award for their track "The Northern."

Former Members
Jesse Ingelevics departed the band in June 2005, citing a growing distance and a desire to focus on his family and fiancée. This period of change was reportedly documented in the work "keep it on wax."
