5 Seconds of Summer

5 Seconds of Summer, often abbreviated as 5SOS, is an Australian pop-rock band formed in Sydney, New South Wales, in 2011. The group consists of Luke Hemmings (lead vocals, guitar), Michael Clifford (guitar, vocals), Calum Hood (bass guitar, vocals), and Ashton Irwin (drums, vocals). Originally gaining traction as social media personalities, the quartet transitioned from internet fame to becoming one of Australia's most successful musical exports of the 2010s.

The band’s roots trace back to Norwest Christian College, where Hemmings, Clifford, and Hood began collaborating on acoustic covers of popular songs. After posting their performances to YouTube in 2011, they attracted a growing audience and eventually recruited Irwin to complete the lineup. Their early DIY approach and engagement with fans online laid the groundwork for a dedicated grassroots following before they secured a major label recording contract.
