Enter Shikari, hailing from St Albans, Hertfordshire, England, emerged in 2003 as a post-hardcore band that defies easy categorization. Their sound is a dynamic fusion of rock and metal sub-genres, intricately woven with elements from diverse electronic styles including electronica, dubstep, trance, and drum and bass. This unique blend has become increasingly prominent throughout their career, making them a distinctive presence in the music landscape. Lyrically, Enter Shikari consistently addresses pressing political, social, and scientific issues, adding a thoughtful depth to their energetic performances.
The band's name draws inspiration from a boat owned by frontman Roughton "Rou" Reynolds' uncle, as well as a character from a play he penned prior to the band's formation, both bearing the name Shikari. Despite receiving offers from major record labels, their debut album, Take to the Skies, was self-released in March 2007 on their own label, Ambush Reality. The album achieved significant success, reaching #4 on the UK Official Album Charts and selling over 100,000 copies in the UK. It was further distributed internationally through various labels.
