As It Is: A Pop Punk Force from Brighton
As It Is, often stylized as ΛS IT IS or Λ\\, emerged from Brighton, England, in 2012, quickly establishing themselves as a notable presence in the pop punk scene. Signed to Fearless Records, the band's current lineup features Patty Walters, Benjamin Biss, Patrick Foley, and Alistair Testo.
Discography and Evolution
The band's output includes four EPs and three full-length albums. Their debut album, Never Happy, Ever After, was released by Fearless Records in April 2015. This was followed by okay. in January 2017, an album that explored a slightly heavier sound while retaining their core pop punk identity. In 2018, As It Is released The Great Depression, an album drawing inspiration from emo and post-hardcore genres.
Musical Style and Influences
As It Is are recognized for their melodic, earnest, and emo-influenced pop punk sound. Critics have drawn comparisons to the early work of bands like Taking Back Sunday and The Starting Line. While Never Happy, Ever After is firmly rooted in emo and pop punk, their subsequent releases have demonstrated a willingness to evolve their sound.
Lineup Changes
In October 2017, the band announced the departure of guitarist Andy Westhead, continuing as a four-piece. Ronnie Ish initially joined as a touring guitarist for Warped Tour before becoming a permanent member of As It Is.
