History
San Pascualito Rey is a folkloric rock band from Mexico City, known for their experimental approach to music. The group masterfully blends rock with elements of trip hop, lounge, romantic ballads, and traditional Mexican folk music. Their distinctive sound is characterized by organic textures and analog warmth.
The current lineup features Pascual Reyes on vocals, Alex Nexus on keyboards, Alex Otaola on guitars, Juan Morales on bass, and Luca Ortega on drums.
Formed in 2000, the band's origins trace back to Pascual Reyes being invited to perform songs from a personal demo with friends. This collaboration led to the formation of San Pascualito Rey, with Adolfo, Nexus, John, and Jorch joining Reyes to bring his music to life.
The band fearlessly explores diverse musical territories, incorporating influences from indie, metal, ska, electronic, and dark genres that resonate within Mexico's underground scene. Their unique sound has been described as akin to "Radiohead walking in Xochimilco." In the wake of Caifanes' dissolution, San Pascualito Rey is often seen as one of the few groups that continue to evoke a sense of mystique.
Each song delves into the profound depths of loneliness and heartbreak, drawing inspiration from Mexican folklore while amplifying these emotions with the raw power of screaming guitars, expressive synthesizers, and desperate overtones. The result is lush and original music.
