We Are Scientists is an American indie rock band formed in Claremont, California, in 2000. The current lineup features Keith Murray (guitar and lead vocals), Chris Cain (bass guitar and backing vocals), Max Hart (keyboards and guitar), and Andy Burrows (drums). Original drummer Michael Tapper departed the band in 2007.
The band's name originated from a humorous encounter with a U-Haul employee. While inspecting a rented van, the employee, mistaking the bespectacled band members for scientists, asked if they were. Despite clarifying they were musicians, the band members later expressed a playful regret for not embracing the scientist persona.
