Rain City Drive, originally formed in Sacramento, California, in 2014 under the name Slaves, is an American rock and post-hardcore band. The band's early years were marked by the release of three studio albums featuring founding member and lead vocalist Jonny Craig: Through Art We Are All Equals (June 24, 2014), Routine Breathing (August 21, 2015), and Beautiful Death (February 16, 2018).
In January 2019, Jonny Craig was removed from the band due to addiction issues. He was subsequently replaced by Matt McAndrew, a runner-up from NBC's reality singing competition The Voice. With McAndrew on vocals, the band released their fourth studio album, To Better Days, on August 7, 2020. Prior to this release, on June 25, 2020, the band announced their decision to retire the name Slaves. They cited their support for the Black Lives Matter movement and their desire to distance their music from a name associated with negative connotations.
