History

The Musical Box is a Canadian band formed in 1993, renowned for their meticulous recreations of Genesis concerts from the 1972-1975 period. They hold the unique distinction of being the only band officially licensed by Genesis and Peter Gabriel.

Since their inception, The Musical Box has dedicated themselves to perfecting their interpretations of Genesis's landmark albums, including Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Their performances feature historically accurate instrumentation and sound equipment mirroring that used by Genesis in the 1970s. The band also utilizes exact replicas of stage props, including Peter Gabriel's distinctive costumes, and reproductions of the original slide projections featured in Genesis concerts.

The authenticity of their tribute has been recognized by the original Genesis members. While Tony Banks has only seen video documentation, the other four musicians from the 1972-1975 lineup have attended The Musical Box's live shows. Notably, Steve Hackett and Phil Collins have occasionally joined the band on stage, performing their original guitar and drum parts.
