History
The Watch
The Watch is a five-piece progressive rock band hailing from Milan, Italy. Emerging from the remnants of the band The Night Watch, their professional journey began with the 2001 release of Ghost, an album that garnered them significant attention within the progressive rock community. Today, The Watch is recognized and respected within the genre.
Musical Style and Influences
The band's musical direction is heavily influenced by the progressive rock artists of the 1970s, with a particular nod to early Genesis. This influence is notably present in the vocal style of Simone Rossetti, which bears a striking resemblance to that of a younger Peter Gabriel. Despite this vocal similarity, The Watch has cultivated its own distinct sound, blending classic progressive rock atmospheres with contemporary elements.
Discography and Touring
The band's 2004 album, Vacuum, was met with widespread critical acclaim. Following its release in November 2004, The Watch embarked on "The Vacuum Tour," performing across Europe and the United States. In 2007, they released Primitive, an album that signaled a return to the roots of progressive music. A subsequent European tour saw the band incorporating Genesis covers into their setlists. The pronounced vocal similarities and the positive reception of these performances led The Watch to develop a dedicated tour focusing on early Genesis works, including albums like Trespass, Nursery Cryme, and Foxtrot.
In 2010, The Watch released the album Planet Earth?, which featured guest contributions from flutist John Hackett. This album was supported by an extensive tour that spanned Europe, the USA, and Canada.
