History
The Peacocks
The Peacocks are a Swiss band known for their blend of punk, psychobilly, and rockabilly. Formed in 1990, the band's current lineup features Hasu Langhard on vocals and guitar, Simon Langhard on upright bass, and Jürg Luder on drums.
Early Years and Evolution
Initially, The Peacocks' sound was heavily influenced by rockabilly, with a poppy psychobilly edge and a significant number of cover songs. The early lineup consisted of guitar, drums, and double bass. After a brief hiatus following a member's departure, the band reformed a year later with the addition of Simon Langhard on double bass. This iteration lasted approximately five years, during which they released several seven-inch records, their debut album "Come With Us," and performed over 100 shows.
International Tours and Album Releases
Prior to their first tour of the US and Canada, a member left, necessitating a temporary replacement by their brother David on drums, who was already familiar with the band's material. The tour proved successful, and Toni soon joined as the permanent drummer. By 1997, The Peacocks had established themselves as a touring act, performing extensively across Japan, the US, Canada, and throughout Europe. During this period, they recorded two more albums, "In Without Knocking" and "Angel." The release of "Angel" led to a signing with Asian Man Records.
Lineup Changes and Continued Success
In early 2002, Toni departed the band due to touring commitments and family responsibilities. After a search for a new drummer, Jürg joined The Peacocks in late 2002, revitalizing the band's energetic performances. In 2004, they released "It's Time For…," which saw a multi-label release across five countries and three continents. The band embarked on extensive tours throughout Europe, Canada, and Japan. In 2006, Hairball 8 Records released a "best of" compilation for the US market, coinciding with a tour of 14 American states. Following this tour, The Peacocks remained in the US to record their latest album, "Touch And Go," at Sonic Iguana in Lafayette, Indiana.
