Edith Márquez, born January 27, 1973, is a Mexican singer and actress known for her dramatic mezzo-soprano vocal range. She was born in Mexico City.
Solo Career Debut and Early Success
Márquez launched her solo career in 1998 with her debut album, Frente a Ti. The album was a significant success, selling over 250,000 copies and earning her a Gold Record. It featured hit singles such as “Mi error, mi fantasía,” “Mírame,” and “Por hablarle de ti,” establishing her as a prominent artist in Spanish-language music. The Gold Record was presented to her by the renowned Spanish singer Rocío Dúrcal.
Continued Discography and Collaborations
Her second album, Caricias del Cielo, was released in 2000 and included popular tracks like “Acostúmbrame al cielo,” “Nubes negras,” and “Esta vez.” In 2001, she released her third album, Extravíate, which featured the title track and other songs like “Mi nombre.” Later that year, her fourth album, ¿Quién Te Cantará?, was released. For this project, Márquez collaborated with Spanish composer Juan Carlos Calderón, interpreting his classic songs and two new compositions written specifically for her: “Enamorada” and “El primero, el único, el último.”
Live Performances and Subsequent Releases
In 2004, Márquez held a highly emotional concert at the Teatro Metropólitan, which was recorded and later released as a DVD. Her fifth studio album, Cuando Grita la Piel, was released in 2005, followed by the unreleased album Memorias del Corazón in 2007. In 2008, she released Pasiones de Cabaret, an album featuring 11 hits reinterpreted with arrangements evoking the golden age of Latin American cabarets.
Recent Work and Genre Exploration
The album Duele, released in 2009, showcased new material produced by Armando Ávila, with singles including “Me voy,” “Que Corra el Aire,” and “El último beso.” In 2012, Márquez embarked on a new phase with the release of Amar No Es Suficiente, which quickly achieved Gold Record status. She also released a live recording of her sold-out concert at the Auditorio Nacional in multiple formats, including Double CD + DVD and Blu-Ray.
Demonstrating her evolving artistry and vocal prowess, Márquez released her tenth solo album, Emociones, in 2013. This project marked her first foray into the ranchera genre, featuring classic songs revitalized with contemporary arrangements, all delivered with her characteristic emotional depth.
