Kazuyuki Kishino (KK Null)
Kazuyuki Kishino, known professionally as KK Null, was born in Tokyo on September 13, 1961. He is a Japanese experimental multi-instrumentalist who has been active in music since the early 1980s. Initially a guitarist, Kishino expanded his musical repertoire to include composition, vocals, drumming, and electronic music creation. His artistic development also includes studies in Butoh dance, having attended workshops led by Min Tanaka.
Early Career and Band Affiliations
KK Null joined the noise and progressive rock band YBO2 in 1984, contributing to several albums and EPs released during the latter half of the decade. Following his tenure with YBO2, he went on to found several other musical projects. These include Absolut Null Punkt (ANP) and the more widely recognized "progressive hardcore trio," Zeni Geva.
Solo Work, Production, and Collaborations
Beyond his work in bands, KK Null has established a prolific solo career. He has produced albums for other artists and founded his own record label, Nux Organization. His live performances and album collaborations span a wide array of musicians and genres. Notable collaborators include John Zorn, Yona-Kit, Steve Albini, Boredoms, Seiichi Yamamoto, Jim O'Rourke, Merzbow, Fred Frith, James Plotkin, Keiji Haino, Otomo Yoshihide, Jon Rose, Damian Catera, OvO, Atau Tanaka, Zbigniew Karkowski, Z'EV, Alexei Borisov, Earth, Cris X. Noisegate, and Philip Samartzis. He has also provided support on tour for established acts such as Sonic Youth and Mike Patton.
Discography and Recent Activity
KK Null's extensive discography comprises over 100 albums. In 2004, he reactivated Absolut Null Punkt, and the band released their first studio album in two decades in 2006.
