History

Rob Aston

Rob Aston, also known as Skinhead Rob, is an American vocalist and rapper. He is best known as a member of the punk rock and hip hop band Transplants.

Early Career

Aston's initial involvement in the music industry began as a roadie for the punk bands AFI and Rancid. He later pursued a solo career, releasing music that remained largely underground, including the track "Show Me."

Formation of Transplants

Aston's path led him to Tim Armstrong, the founder of the band Rancid. Armstrong was working on new musical ideas and sought lyrics from Aston. The two began collaborating in Armstrong's basement, developing songs together. For their drumming, they enlisted Travis Barker, known for his work with Blink-182, opting for live drum tracks over the initially considered drum loops.

Expensive Taste

Following the conclusion of the 2005 Vans Warped Tour, Transplants disbanded. Rob Aston then joined forces with Houston rapper Paul Wall. This collaboration led to the formation of a new group called Expensive Taste, with Paul Wall having previously "chopped and screwed" the Transplants' album "Haunted Cities."
