History
Keith Philip George Allen (born June 2, 1953) is a Welsh comedian and musician. He is widely recognized for his frequent collaborations with the band New Order.
Musical Career
Fat Les and Football Anthems
Allen was a member of Fat Les, a musical project that also included Britpop artist Damien Hirst and Blur bassist Alex James. The group was known for its involvement in football-related music. Fat Les released "Vindaloo," a popular song associated with the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Allen also contributed to other football anthems, including "England's Irie" by Black Grape and "On Me Head, Son" for the film Mike Bassett: England Manager, credited on the soundtrack as Sporting Les.
New Order Collaborations
Allen maintained a close association with the band New Order. He co-wrote their sole UK number one single, "World In Motion." He also performed with the band live on occasion and appeared in their DVD New Order Story, where he hosted a fictional New Order game show segment.
Later Projects
In 2012, Allen, as part of Fat Les, recorded a protest song against the corporate sponsorship of the London Olympic Games. For this track, titled "The Official Fit Les Olympics Anthem," he enlisted Rowetta, former backing vocalist for Happy Mondays and an X Factor finalist, and Matt Eaton, guitarist for Actress Hands.
Other Appearances
Allen has also been noted for performing onstage with Happy Mondays in New York City.
