History
The Ergs!
Hailing from South Amboy, New Jersey, The Ergs! emerged in 2000 as a trio of self-proclaimed "Near-Sighted Three" playing pop-punk with a distinctive blend of speed, power, and a playful smirk. The band's lineup featured Jeffrey Erg (Jeff Schroeck) on guitar and vocals, Joey Erg (Joe Keller) on bass, and Mikey Erg (Mike Yannich) handling drums and lead vocals.
Early Releases and Growing Recognition
The Ergs! quickly began documenting their sound, releasing two self-produced CD-Rs within their first year. Their initial breakthrough outside their immediate circle came with the 2001 release of the Three Guys, Twelve Eyes EP on the Whoa Oh label. This was followed by the provocative The Ben Kweller EP in 2002, which notably repurposed artwork from Ben Kweller's Phone Home EP and featured a song humorously critiquing the indie-rock artist.
First Full-Length and Label Support
In 2003, The Ergs! released their debut full-length album, Dorkrockcorkrod. The album garnered significant praise within the punk press, expanding the band's reach beyond New Jersey. Initially released on Whoa Oh, the album was later picked up by Don Giovanni Records, which would go on to distribute the band's subsequent EP, Jersey's Best Prancers, in 2005. The EP's title and artwork were a witty nod to the 1997 Lifetime album.
Collaboration and Major Label Release
The year 2006 saw The Ergs! join forces with Dave Parasite of The Parasites for a tour supporting a "Best Of" compilation. Shortly thereafter, the band signed with Dirtnap Records, who released their album Upstairs/Downstairs in the spring of 2007.
Band Status
The Ergs! officially disbanded in 2008, though they have since reunited for numerous performances.
