Underminded
Band History
Underminded was a prominent hardcore band originating from San Diego, California, active from 1999 to 2009. The band is currently on hiatus as its members pursue other musical endeavors. Lead singer Nick Martin is now involved with Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows (D.R.U.G.S.), and drummer Tanner Wayne has recently been performing with Chiodos.
Formation and Early Years
The foundations of Underminded were laid in 1999 when classmates Nick Martin and Matt Johnson met at a Catholic school. Early in their career, they received encouragement to tour from Jon Pebsworth, the singer of Buck-O-Nine. The band's debut full-length album, Hail Unamerican, was released in 2004. Following this release, Underminded performed throughout the entire 2004 Warped Tour.
Subsequent Releases and Touring
A follow-up album, initially planned for a 2006 release and titled Eleven Eleven, was eventually issued in 2007, produced by Paul Miner. After the release of Eleven Eleven, the band embarked on tours with notable acts such as Chiodos, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Emery, and The Devil Wears Prada.
Nick Martin's Other Projects
Beyond Underminded, lead singer Nick Martin has maintained a busy schedule. He has performed as part of the live backing band for former Chiodos frontman Craig Owens and was a member of the supergroup Isles & Glaciers. He also played guitar for the now-defunct Cinematic Sunrise. Martin made two guest appearances on Chiodos' final record and toured with them during the 2009 Vans Warped Tour. He was announced as one of two guitarists for Craig Owens' new band, D.R.U.G.S.
Musical Style and Live Performance
Underminded was known for delivering "well-coordinated, punishing metal-based hardcore intensity" and was dedicated to extensive touring. Their live shows were characterized by high energy, intensity, and a sense of controlled chaos. The band's dedication to their craft and their powerful stage presence made them a notable act within the hardcore scene.
