Emerging from the remnants of the punk band Angor Wat in 1988, Israelvis quickly established themselves as a significant force in Norway's alternative music scene during the early 1990s. The band's musical journey began with their debut album, Heart to Heart Politics, released in 1990. This was followed by the album Half Past Heaven in 1991 and the EP We Only Live Twice in 1992. Their breakthrough arrived in 1993 with the release of the album Albino Blue. Subsequent releases, including Church of Israelvis (1994) and Eurosis (1996), became highly regarded by their fanbase.

Israelvis's sound is characterized by a fusion of sharp, hard rock guitar work with lyrics that are both ironic and politically charged. Their musical palette drew inspiration from a wide array of genres, incorporating elements of punk, jazz, electronica, mambo, and various other experimental sonic textures. The band's music has consistently been described as cutting-edge, unpredictable, and uncompromising.
