History
Dalis Car
Dalis Car was a brief musical collaboration between Mick Karn, the former bassist and composer for the band Japan, and Peter Murphy, the vocalist for Bauhaus. This project culminated in a single album, The Waking Hour, released in 1984 on Beggars Banquet. The album featured Paul Vincent Lawford on percussion, and the track "The Judgement Is The Mirror" was released as a single.
The Waking Hour: A Difficult Creation
The Waking Hour faced commercial challenges and was reportedly unsuccessful, exceeding its studio budget by nearly 150%. The difficulties during the recording process were largely attributed to creative friction between Karn and Murphy, leading to a reluctance to work together again. In a late 1990s interview, Karn described the project as "particularly difficult," noting that they were "two very different people."
Posthumous Release: In Glad Aloneness
Remarkably, in 2010, an internet mailing list associated with Mick Karn announced that he and Peter Murphy were working on new material. Tragically, Mick Karn passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer. The recordings from their final sessions together were released in April 2012 as a five-track EP titled In Glad Aloneness. This EP is available through Burning Shed.
