History
Laddio Bolocko
Laddio Bolocko was a noise rock band formed in New York City in 1996. The group's lineup featured guitarist Drew St. Ivany, known for his work with The Psychic Paramount, bassist Ben Armstrong from Panicsville, and drummer Blake Fleming of The Dazzling Killmen. Marcus DeGrazia contributed on horns.
Musical Style and Influences
The band's sound was characterized by its experimental approach, drawing comparisons to influential experimental rock groups like This Heat and Can, as well as free jazz artists such as Albert Ayler. Laddio Bolocko's music often explored dense, improvisational textures and a raw, unpolished aesthetic.
Discography and Releases
Laddio Bolocko favored limited releases, issuing their original albums in small pressings. They also recorded and released the EP As if by Remote exclusively in Europe. Despite not securing a major label contract, the band garnered critical acclaim and maintained a consistent international touring schedule, frequently performing alongside their contemporaries Trans Am.
Post-Disbandment and Legacy
The band disbanded in 2000. Following their dissolution, Armstrong and St. Ivany went on to form the noise rock outfit The Psychic Paramount. Fleming and DeGrazia later formed the band Electric Turn to Me. In 2003, No Quarter Records released The Life & Times of Laddio Bolocko, an anthology compiling the band's three original releases, making their work more widely accessible. Laddio Bolocko was also featured in David Cross's DVD, Let America Laugh.
