Cult Hero was a short-lived side project formed in 1979 by members of the English post-punk band The Cure. The project was conceived as an experiment to explore the collaborative potential between Robert Smith and Simon Gallup, who would later become The Cure's bassist. The lineup also featured Frank Bell, a local postman from Crawley, England, as the lead vocalist, and Robert Smith's sisters, Margaret and Janet, on backing vocals. Janet Smith would later marry Porl Thompson, The Cure's founding guitarist.
The band's primary output was a single featuring two disco-influenced new-wave tracks: "I'm a Cult Hero" and "I Dig You." These songs are now included on the deluxe edition of The Cure's 1980 album, "Seventeen Seconds." Due to their limited original material, Cult Hero's live performances, though infrequent, also included cover versions of popular songs from the era. The project disbanded sometime before the release of "Seventeen Seconds." Bootleg recordings of their performances are known to exist.
