History
Göteborg Sound
Göteborg Sound, also known as GBG Sound, is recognized as one of the pioneering punk bands in Gothenburg, Sweden. Describing their music as "fast and aggressive rock music," the band emerged in the late 1970s. The core members had a history of playing together before recruiting Lars-Olov "LOB" Bengtsson as their singer in the fall of 1977.
Early Performances and Releases
Göteborg Sound quickly gained a reputation as a compelling live act. Despite some initial criticism directed at LOB for his energetic stage presence, reminiscent of Iggy Pop, during the opening of the rock club Errols, the band's live performances became a draw. Demonstrating their independent spirit, Göteborg Sound released two singles in 1978, proving that independent artists could release records without the backing of major music industry labels.
Contribution to the Punk Scene
In collaboration with the band Bruset, Göteborg Sound was instrumental in establishing "Garageligan," an important organization that supported and fostered the burgeoning punk scene in Gothenburg. Throughout their existence, Göteborg Sound recorded a total of four singles and performed live on over one hundred occasions.
