Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit is an Americana and Southern rock band rooted in the Muscle Shoals region of Alabama. The group is fronted by Jason Isbell, a former singer and guitarist for Drive-by Truckers.
Band Members
Fiddle player and singer Amanda Shires is a frequent collaborator, appearing as a session musician and occasional touring member.
The band's name is derived from a nickname for the psychiatric ward at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama.
Discography
The 400 Unit is credited on five of Isbell's eight studio albums: Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit (2009), Here We Rest (2011), The Nashville Sound (2017), Reunions (2020), and Weathervanes (2023). While members of the 400 Unit have also featured on Isbell's solo albums, including Sirens of the Ditch (2007), the critically acclaimed Southeastern (2013), and Something More Than Free (2015), these releases are not officially credited to the band.
Touring
The band maintains a consistent touring schedule, performing across the United States and internationally. They are known for their annual engagement at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium, often supported by Amanda Shires and a diverse lineup of emerging country, folk, and soul artists.
