History
Manuel Turizo: A Colombian Reggaeton Star
Manuel Turizo Zapata, known professionally as Manuel Turizo, is a Colombian singer and songwriter who rose to prominence in the reggaeton scene. Born and raised in Montería, Córdoba, his musical journey began at thirteen, heavily influenced by his older brother, Julián Turizo.
Early Success and Breakthrough
At sixteen, Turizo independently recorded and released three singles: "Baila Conmigo," "Vámonos," and "Una Lady Como Tú." The latter, released in 2017, achieved widespread popularity, quickly becoming one of the most listened-to songs in Spanish-speaking countries that year. This success led to a record deal with La Industria Inc. The music video for "Una Lady Como Tú" has amassed over 1.4 billion views on YouTube, with the song itself exceeding 495 million streams on Spotify.
Collaborations and Chart Performance
Turizo's career gained further momentum through collaborations. In October 2017, his feature on Piso 21's "Déjala Que Vuelva" garnered over 1.6 billion YouTube views and more than 560 million streams on Spotify. He followed this with his second single, "Esperándote," in December 2017, which has accumulated over 750 million YouTube views.
The year 2018 saw the release of several singles, including "Culpables," "Sola," "Una Vez Más" with Noriel, and "Vaina Loca" with Ozuna. "Vaina Loca" marked his debut on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 94. In March 2019, "Sola" became his first number-one hit on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart.
Debut Album and Subsequent Releases
August 2019 marked the release of his debut studio album, "ADN." The album featured collaborations with prominent artists such as Zion & Lennox, Noriel, Ozuna, Darell, Nicky Jam, Sech, and Anuel AA, and peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot Latin Albums chart.
In the spring of 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Turizo released the single "Quiéreme Mientras Se Pueda." Later that year, he collaborated with Rauw Alejandro and Myke Towers on "La Nota." His sophomore album, "Dopamina," was released in April 2021.
Artistic Philosophy and Future Ambitions
Manuel and his brother Julián grew up immersed in music, exploring various instruments. While Julián gravitated towards the guitar, Manuel focused on his vocal talent, honing his skills with vocal technique classes. Turizo believes that universal lyrics capable of touching the soul are the key to success and values the continued support of his fans.
Navigating the spotlight, Turizo remains grounded by his humility and his ambition to become one of Latin America's greatest urban artists, confident in his ability to maintain his artistic direction.
