The Franklin Electric, a Montreal-based trio, emerged in 2010 when lead singer-songwriter Jon Matte found inspiration for the band's name in a story about a man fired by an old power company. Matte, who handles vocals, piano, and trumpet, is joined by Kevin Warren on drums and Jean-Sebastien Leblanc on guitar. The group is known for its vocal-centric sound, blending rock and folk genres with influences from ambient guitar textures and brass instrumentation.
On stage, The Franklin Electric has drawn comparisons to artists like Radiohead and Coldplay, often venturing into extended periods of emotional improvisation during their sets. This live energy is mirrored in their studio approach, which prioritizes authentic recording sessions built on honesty and integrity. The band maintains a distinct purity in their sound, untouched by outside influences beyond the core members.
