Tygers of Pan Tang

Tygers of Pan Tang is an English heavy metal band that emerged from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. Formed in Whitley Bay, England, in 1978, the group was initially active until 1987. They reunited in 1999 and have remained a consistent presence in the music scene, continuing to record and perform.

The band's distinctive name is inspired by Pan Tang, a fictional archipelago featured in Michael Moorcock's "Elric of Melniboné" fantasy series. Within this literary world, wizards are depicted keeping tigers as exotic pets, a concept that lent itself to the band's moniker.
