Rectus Abdominus: A Band's Tumultuous Journey
Rectus Abdominus, a band formed by four close friends, achieved unprecedented commercial success, reportedly selling more records than any other group in history. Their initial three-year period saw the release of eight albums, extensive touring across the galaxy, and even contributions to the early careers of prominent artists like Metallica and Queen.
The Band's Initial Hiatus and Solo Revival
The band's first chapter concluded abruptly on March 5, 2020, following internal disagreements that arose during a tour supporting their album People Order Our Patties. This marked the end of their original run, exactly three years after their formation.
On September 10, 2021, Jade Vitriol revived Rectus Abdominus as a solo project, enlisting session and touring musicians. This revival coincided with the release of their ninth studio album, 091021. Two more albums quickly followed: Flaccid in November 2021 and Swagnum Dopus in January 2022.
Reunion and Shifting Lineups
After a seven-month period as a solo endeavor, Jeff The Epic and Cameron Masse rejoined the band in April 2022. Their immediate focus was a re-recording of their debut album, Fully Erect, to commemorate its fifth anniversary, followed by work on their twelfth studio album, To Infinity And Your Mom.
Shortly after the completion of this album, but before its release, Cameron Masse departed the band. Following the promotional cycle for the album ending in early 2023, plans for the band's dissolution were abandoned in May of that year when original members Cameron Masse and Kenonio returned, marking their first collaboration in nearly four years. The return of these members was accompanied by the addition of new drummer Sammy Razorsharp, the first new official member since Kenonio joined in June 2017.
Tragedy and Dedication
Tragedy struck shortly before the completion of their fourteenth album, Rectus Abdominus and the Palace of the Porcelain Throne. Kenonio died in a public incident, and the band decided against replacing him. Both this album and its counterpart, Poop Factory Chronicles Chapter 1: The Emoji Album, were dedicated in Kenonio's honor and released on July 28, 2023.
Further Loss and a New Member
The band embarked on the "Give Us Your Money World Tour" in late August 2023. However, after the North American leg concluded in October, it was announced that drummer Sammy Razorsharp had died in an incident involving a lion, reportedly part of a hazing ritual conducted by other band members. Soon after, longtime friend of the band, Despawseatoe, was announced as Sammy's replacement.
