History
ENHYPEN is a South Korean boy group formed through the 2020 survival competition show I-LAND. Managed by BELIFT LAB—a joint venture between HYBE and CJ ENM—the group consists of seven members: Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, Jungwon, and Ni-ki.
Formation and Identity
The name ENHYPEN is inspired by the "hyphen" symbol, representing the idea that individual boys connect to discover one another and grow together. This theme of connection is central to their identity and extends to their fandom, known as ENGENE. The fandom name suggests that the fans are the "engines" that drive the group forward, while also implying that the group and their supporters share the same "DNA" to connect and evolve as a single unit.
Career Beginnings and the Border Series
ENHYPEN made their official debut on November 30, 2020, with the extended play (EP) BORDER : DAY ONE and its lead single, "Given-Taken." The release was a commercial success, establishing them as a prominent new act in the K-pop industry. They continued this momentum in April 2021 with BORDER : CARNIVAL, featuring the title track "Drunk-Dazed." This release earned the group their first music show win, marking a significant milestone in their early career.
In July 2021, the group expanded into the Japanese market with the single BORDER : 儚い (Hakanai), which included Japanese versions of their previous hits alongside new original material.
Dimension and Manifesto Eras
In October 2021, after the members recovered from a brief hiatus, the group released their first full-length studio album, DIMENSION : DILEMMA. Led by the single "Tamed-Dashed," the album showcased a more mature musical direction. This was followed by the repackaged album DIMENSION : ANSWER in January 2022, which featured the rock-influenced "Blessed-Cursed" and the viral B-side "Polaroid Love," the latter of which gained significant international traction on social media platforms.
In July 2022, ENHYPEN launched a new creative chapter with MANIFESTO : DAY 1. The title track, "Future Perfect (Pass the MIC)," experimented with Chicago drill influences, signaling the group's willingness to explore diverse musical genres and assertive lyrical themes.
The Blood Series and Recent Evolution
The group entered a highly conceptual phase in 2023 with the "Blood" series. The first installment, DARK BLOOD, was released in May 2023 and featured the dark, rhythmic title track "Bite Me." This was followed in November 2023 by ORANGE BLOOD, led by the single "Sweet Venom."
In 2024, ENHYPEN continued to diversify their discography. They released a remake of BTS's "I NEED U" for Spotify Singles and a special album titled MEMORABILIA in May. Their second full-length album, ROMANCE: UNTOLD, was released in July 2024, featuring the title track "XO (Only If You Say Yes)," further cementing their status as global leaders in the fourth generation of K-pop.
