History
Gabrielle Aplin, born October 10, 1992, is an English singer-songwriter hailing from Sutton Benger, Wiltshire. Aplin initially cultivated an online presence by sharing acoustic covers of songs by artists like Paramore and You Me at Six on YouTube, beginning in 2008. Her early performances on the platform included original compositions such as "Home," alongside covers of popular tracks like "The Liar and the Lighter" by You Me At Six, Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream," and Cee Lo Green's "Forget You." Aplin has characterized her music as "very family orientated, very personal."
Her musical journey progressed with the release of her first EP, the five-track Acoustic EP, on September 13, 2010, which charted in the UK iTunes album chart. The EP featured the song "Reverse," which was later featured on the E4 television series *Made in Chelsea*. By 2010, Aplin had released three EPs and undertaken tours across the UK and Europe. In July 2010, she performed on BBC Wiltshire, her local radio station.
A significant turning point came in February 2012 when Aplin signed with Parlophone and began recording her debut album. Mainstream recognition followed in November 2012 when her cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "The Power of Love," recorded for a John Lewis television advertisement, topped the UK Singles Chart on December 9, 2012. Her second single, "Please Don't Say You Love Me," released in 2013, became her second UK Top 10 hit, reaching number 6.
Aplin's debut album, English Rain, was released in May 2013 to positive reception, debuting at number 2 on the UK album charts. The album's release coincided with the single "Panic Cord," which peaked at number 19 in the UK.
